MODEL: P.A.S.G.T / TACTICAL / PARATROOPER

Usage and Tactical Environment

Personnel will use the ballistic helmet as part of their individual equipment to protect their heads against injuries from blunt, sharp, and ballistic threats. The helmet can be used in conventional warfare as well as in counter-insurgency and public order operations.

Operating Conditions

The Helmet can be used in all extremes of weather.
The Helmet is sufficiently robust to withstand the general wear and tear of tactical operations, but care should be taken wherever possible to avoid unnecessary abuse.
The Helmet is simple to wear - easy to put on and adjust.
The Helmet fits firmly but remains comfortable.
No special maintenance is required except for general cleaning.

Fundamental Performance Objectives

Provides protection against ballistic shrapnel and medium calibre pistols.
Protects the head from blunt impact, such as falling over or falling objects.
Has a low centre of gravity so that it is stable to wear.
Takes into consideration the size of an average soldier in terms of weight and size to ensure that it is comfortable to wear.
Provides adequate ventilation to reduce heat and improve comfort.
Is finished in a matt and textured PU paint that is non-infrared reflective.
Paint Colour can be matched to any customer’s specification
Does not delaminate, distort or crack during normal operations for a period of 5 years
Guaranteed against faulty materials and workmanship for a period of 1 year.

Helmet Shell

Constructed with multiple layers of Aramid Fibres that are woven into fabric and laminated together with a Phenolic based thermo set resin system.
Available in three different sizes; small, medium, and large as detailed below.
Tested in accordance with specification MIL-STD-662E, using 0.22 calibre, 17 grain fragment stimulators - the minimum V 50 velocity can be tailored to customer requirements
When tested in accordance with specification STANAG 2920, the delamination effect will not exceed 20mm.
Tested in accordance with NIJ Standard 0106.01 - the minimum ballistic level can be tailored to customer requirements.
Shell thickness is relatively uniform but will vary according to the ballistic requirements.
The outer coating passes the conventional Infrared Reflection test.
When dropped from a height of 2.5m above a cement floor, the Helmet will not crack or de-laminate.
When subjected to a sideways force of 6.3N, the Helmet will crack or delaminate and the permanent deformation will not exceed 5mm.
When immersed in tap water at 15 o to 25 oC for 16 hours and allowed to air dry for 12 hours under the same temperature conditions, the Helmet and outside coating will not soften, blister, or peel. (Specification: MIL-H-4409A - Para 4.5.1.)

Internal Helmet Liner

Greatly reduces cranial trauma resulting from ballistic and blunt impact
Reduces internal noise caused by contact with foliage, raindrops, falling debris, etc.
Made of 4mm thick medium density EVA foam and coloured black to match internal harness.
The pre-moulded liner is securely bonded to the inner surface of the Helmet shell with high strength contact adhesive.

Helmet Harness design

Easily replaceable when worn-out or damaged.
Suspends the Helmet 15-20 mm above the wearer's head.
Absorbs the residual kinetic energy of the projectiles during impact.
Provides ventilation to reduce accumulation of heat inside the Helmet Quick release plastic buckle on the Chinstrap facilitates efficient fitting and removal.
Easily adjustable with Velcro fasteners on the Headband and Cradle, and with webbing sliders on the Chinstrap.

Helmet Harness components

The Cradle is made of 3-dimensional laminated fabric that actively draws perspiration away from the skin. The front is sewn to the base of the brow pad. The back is fitted with 25mm wide polyester webbing and Velcro fasteners for adjustment purposes. The adjustment webbing is fixed to the shell body through two plastic loops that are fixed to the Helmet shell at two fastening points.
The front Brow Pad is made of soft black cow leather, 25mm wide polyester webbing, and 6mm thick low density EVA foam. It is attached to the Helmet shell at two fastening points with one strip of Velcro across the front.
The rear Neck Pad is made of black polyester fabric, 25mm wide polyester webbing, 6mm thick low density EVA foam, and two plastic loops. It is attached to the Helmet Shell at two fastening points.
The front and rear pads are connected together with adjustable Velcro fasteners at the side of the head to accommodate a head circumference variation of 4 cm.
The Chin Strap is made of 19mm wide polyester webbing and plastic adjusters. The chin cup webbing is lined with soft cow leather to absorb perspiration, which reduces slippage and improves comfort. It is attached to the Helmet shell at three fastening points.
All of the Harness materials inside the Helmet shell are coloured black, whilst the Chin Strap is coloured to match the external Helmet colour.

Harness mounting systems

There are three alternative methods for mounting the Harness to the Helmet Shell With five sets of black anodised stainless steel screws and spring steel A - nuts. With four sets of black anodised stainless steel screws and spring steel A-nuts - the rear mounting point is spread over both rear side screws. Without Bolts, but with internally moulded Aramid webbing loops that support the main Head Band and Chin Strap. This system further enhances the structural and ballistic integrity of the Helmet Shell.

Carry Bag

Each helmet is packed inside a Carry Bag made of black nylon fabric and closed with a drawstring. It is a multi purpose bag that can be used by the person when the Helmet is being worn.
